Update: I have been disgusted by the overt victim-blaming, ignorant refusal to understand, bad faith cruelty and outright extremism I have encountered around these events on Mastodon, and I have removed the app from my phone. I may or may not return to posting there. It is my opinion that many people have been radicalized to hate on the traumatized, particularly on one side, because of religious extremists.
Some I have interacted with should rethink their preferred narrative, because it has stolen their humanity, causing them to swiftly dismiss a lawless, brutal, extremist religious terror attack on civilians, because of the inevitably violent state retaliation. Most should probably educate themselves about Hamas before commenting further.
I will note here I did not know, until researching for this update, that Hamas’ charter was revised since 1988. Regardless, what they truly believe is shown in what they do.
Please read: Hamas Covenant 1988 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas_Charter
You will have to understand that having studied the Holocaust, I have no time for people who stand with any group with origins like Hamas. That does not mean Israel has never done or is not doing anything wrong. It means that there are levels of severity and trauma, and we don’t owe people who massacre dancers in the desert, not to mention butchering families with kids, any deference as “freedom fighters”. The victims in all this are Israelis and now Palestinians continue to suffer, as do people from multiple nations who are held hostage by what is a propaganda-spewing murder cult, that indoctrinates kids to hate.
Many commenting in free countries are not the free thinkers that they think they are.
